The Finger is the secret police branch of the Norsefire Government.
Agents, known as Fingermen, strike fear into the population. They are shown breaking the law and abusing citizens with impunity. For instance, Evey Hammond is stopped by several Fingermen for breaking curfew. Rather than addressing the infraction, however, they attempt to sexually assault her and are only stopped by the intervention of V. Derek Almond ran the government's secret police, before being killed by V. Almond was replaced by Peter Creedy
